Meet Payton Runyan

Payton Runyan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C) in the state of Maryland. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience, followed by her Master of Social Work and Master of Public Administration degrees, from The Ohio State University.
Payton formerly worked as a residential therapist, providing individual and group therapy to adolescents with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions. She facilitated developmentally adapted Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) with adolescents diagnosed with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Payton also was a training group leader for Suicide Prevention Services in Columbus, Ohio. In this capacity, Payton answered crisis calls with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, connecting families with emergency resources. Payton is a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills trainer and DBT individual therapist in the comprehensive DBT program at EMH.
Payton utilizes a strengths-based approach with clients in areas focusing on childhood trauma, self-esteem, relationships, family conflict and parenting, and self-harm. She utilizes emotionally focused and systems approaches through an attachment lens to help teens and young adults find their sense of self, heal past experiences, and chart a new path for future relationships. Payton is currently working toward her certification in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
