Clinical Supervision

We welcome all mental health providers on their path towards professional development. EMH provides clinical supervision hours to novice (or even seasoned) mental health providers.

EMH offers clinical supervision requisite to full clinical licensure for both social workers (Licensed Masters Social Worker) and professional counselors (Licensed Graduate Professional Counselors) in the state of Maryland. Prospective supervisees can authenticate the approved supervisor credential for Gloria Seo, LCSW-C here and the approved supervisor credential for Casey Anderson, LCPC here.

Clinical supervision at EMH is largely influenced by cognitive behavioral therapies. Supervisees can expect that the supervisory experience will mimic characteristics of CBT treatment.

Notably, EMH providers seek to bolster supervisees' risk management skills surrounding suicide and self-injury prevention.

Examples of clinical skills to be developed include:

Creating a well-written cognitive behavioral case conceptualization;
Organizing session time effectively;
Proficiency in a range of cognitive behavioral interventions; and

Preliminary Goals of Clinical Supervision

To teach theory and technique application of cognitive behavioral therapies.
To examine and modify inaccurate assumptions of cognitive behavioral therapy.
To prevent deviation from CBT as a treatment model.

EMH Clinical Supervisor Responsibilities

EMH supervisors will:

Provide didactics related to CBT.
Give constructive, timely, and formative feedback.
Listen to at least four recordings of your therapy sessions.
Assume professional, ethical, and legal responsibility for the welfare of the supervisee’s clients.

Advisory

Because EMH clinical supervisors assume professional responsibility for your clients’ welfare, all clients on a supervisee’s caseload must provide written authorization to release protected health information to the EMH supervisor. It is the supervisee’s responsibility to obtain bidirectional authorization between the client and EMH supervisor, including a registry of client contact information in the event of a psychiatric emergency.
